Call for Posters

We invite school nurses and nurse researchers to submit abstracts for the poster session. The purpose of the poster session is to communicate best practices in school nursing, share research findings and initiate discussion among conference participants.

Posters should fall into one of the following categories:

1. Best Practice: Development of a “best practice” demonstrating exemplary school nursing that reflects the theme of the conference. (Share the programs, projects, interventions, etc. you have found to be effective in your setting!) Posters can be submitted by individuals or groups.

2. Research: Research studies investigating clinical questions relevant to school nursing practice.
For more details, including the full process to submit your abstracts, download the submission form linked below.

Vendor Applications - Reserve your spot now!

Whether a school nurse has attended a multitude of conferences or this is her first one, THE spot to check out is the vendor location!  We don’t get continuing education credits for visiting the vendors, but we get information that helps us in our school nursing practice.

The information may increase our professional expertise or provide help to a needy student or family.  Often you give us information that we can use to share with others: school nurses, teachers, students and parents.  Many school nurses use your information in the lessons we teach to students.  Sometimes the information explains a problem we’ve been pondering or provides a product that can make our schools safer.

Many of our attendees are school nursing supervisors and they take information back to their districts with recommendations that lead to purchase decisions.  Other school nurses are the only health professional in their schools and their knowledge of a product can lead to its purchase.

The Florida Association of School Nurses makes every effort to have the vendor area open several times during the conference.  Some vendors choose the Premier space because it is in the open hallway and not restricted to vendor times.  Although a little more expensive, it brings traffic to your site during the entire conference, from registration until the closing session.  Whichever spot you choose, you may rest assured, you will have many opportunities to speak to school nurses because they will seek you out!

2010 State Conference: We Went the Extra Mile

by Marcy Taylor, R.N., B.S.N.

The Florida Association of School Nurses 15th Annual Conference, “School Nurses:  Going the Extra Mile,” was a huge success!  The conference was held February 5 – 6, 2010,  at the beautiful Orlando Marriott in Lake Mary, Florida.

The one hundred and fifty plus participants experienced awesome speakers with a wide variety of topics including current trends in tobacco, data collection, young caregivers, RTI/504, autism and Bell’s palsy.  Our Keynote Address was given by Mary Pappas, RN, BSN.  Nurse Pappas discovered the first H1N1 outbreak in New York.  What a treat to have her with us!

Along with excellent speakers FASN was able to offer poster sessions, marketplace and a room full of vendors with lots of information and goodies.  FASN held their annual business meeting and installation of officers.  All participants were honored as the School Nurse of the Year!
The food was excellent and the networking was plentiful.  The FASN 15th Annual Conference was a success!

All participants were School Nurses:  Going the Extra Mile to educate themselves so they can give back to their community.

For a bird-eye view of the conference, the Spring 2010 Edition of the FASNating News has articles about all of our sessions.
