Conference News
Our 2008 State Conference is concluded, but the knowledge gained there carries on. In the June 2008 issue of the FASNating News will be articles written by several of our scholarship winners. If you go to the Photo Gallery link you can see pictures from the conference and if you go to the School Nurse of the Year link, you can see the 2008 School Nurse of the Year, Shelley Bumm. We offered more scholarships this year than ever and almost 200 school nurses attended. Donna Mazyck, the President of NASN, gave our Keynote Address. Interspersed among a full day of learning, were opportunities for fun, fellowship and further learning through the poster presentations. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Conference Committee and their efforts to produce a state conference worthy of national recognition. This committee is already working on the 2009 conference, taking what we have learned from 2008, to make 2009 even better.
Several school nurses throughout Florida are planning to make the trip to Albuquerque, NM, for the 40th Anniversary of the National Association of School Nurses. FASN offered 5 scholarships to our members that cover the 4 day Registration Fee to the conference. Scholarship winners will be expected to attend the NASN Business Meeting, our State Caucus and write an article for the newsletter on a session they attended at the conference. This year our winners are:
Patricia Baker (Indian River)
Karen Velinsky (Palm Beach)
Karen Thoennes (Escambia)
We look forward to their articles in our Fall Newsletter.
